Following the 2007 budget, we felt that it contained words and phrases that could cause problems for many readers or listeners, and since then have produced a ‘plain English’ draft of the chancellor's speech each year.

The Plain English Campaign calls for the government to consider producing a ‘plain English’ draft of the speech to go on the government’s website, alongside the text of the speech.
